Matthew Dear & Ryan Elliott take helm of Spectral Sound

2009 is looking to be another banner year for Ghostly International’s dance-music arm, Spectral Sound. Having made RA’s Best Labels list last year, Spectral hits the ground running in 2009 with strong new material and live performances from its core roster of Audion, Bodycode, Osborne, Kate Simko, Lee Curtiss, and Seth Troxler.

Matthew Dear (aka Audion) and Ryan Elliott have taken over Spectral’s A&R duties, and while their influence has always been felt, their direct involvement in signings will only bolster the nine-year-old imprint’s continuing evolution. Last month, Audion launched a new website (www.audion.me) containing the new free song “I Am the Car” to much acclaim. The slow leak will continue as Audion releases a new track each month. All of this is a prelude to Audion‘s upcoming full-length and his massive new live performances, which debut this summer.

The festival season kicked off with a Spectral session in Miami’s design district at Grass, where Richie Hawtin, Claude Von Stroke, Anja Schneider, and other electronic-music luminaries (as well as a gaggle of fans) witnessed the debut of the new Audion sound, c. 2009.

Turbo to Stop Selling Music

Turbo is proud to announce a revolutionary new model for the music business. We’ve decided to stop peddling music in this depressing market. Sales are down, and since all growth is in events, we figure we might as well just throw in the towel on a broken model and focus on what really works, while preserving and developing our integrity as artists and purveyors of fine techno culture.

We will continue to sign music. We will continue to promote our artists. We just won’t release their music, in the traditional sense. There will be teasers, videos, and ads, but fans will hear the music in full quality EXCLUSIVELY at Turbo events. We will share select pieces with friends of the label but the few digital copies we release will be watermarked and any filesharers will be swiftly blacklisted.
